...that's a kid's book isn't it? Or is it just somthing from a kid's book. Something about that "terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad day" feels strangely familiar, like from childhood or something.
But when I think kids books, all I can think about is Beezus and Ramona.
Man I used to LOVE Beezus and Ramona books. And Fudge... or, Superfudge. Beverly Cleary. ~sigh~
Those were the days.
If I had a 10 year old, I would definitely want it to be reading Beezus and Ramona and Superfudge. Actually I'm not even sure if that's the age bracket for those guys, I know nothing about children that doesn't stem from my own memories, and I can't remember how old I was back then... oh well.
The terrible, horrible, no-good,very bad day came about as Reilly went missing.
I am so sad. And I feel so guilty because it's mostly my fault. Yesterday I was sitting at work when my phone rang and it was some kid saying "are you missing a dog?" Well obviously I wasn't-- I was at work, and this kid sounded like a messer (we had posters with my phone number hanging up all over town due to Frankie, awhile back), and all 3 of my dogs are home safe and sound. So I was like "no...." and he goes "thanks" and hangs up. As soon as the phone went click, it hit me: Ohhhhh SHIT.
Of course I hadn't thought fast enough on my feet.
Rewind:
"What kind of dog?"
"Did you find a dog? Where are you?"
or even:
"Well, we were looking for the owners of a lost ferret awhile back, are you sure you're not calling about that?"
ANYTHING would have been better than what I managed to muster up: "no..?"
So of course I rang back the number immidiately.
Of course it was a payphone. With no one picking up.
Of course I couldn't work and left for an hour, to go home, find Reilly missing out of the backyard, and only the butcher across the street who'd seen her about a half hour ago... but couldn't place the time pre-phone call or post-phone call.
Well after looking all evening we found the payphone the kid called from. All procedures are in place. Vets have been phoned, the pound, and the local internet page for lost & found. Will decorate yet another part of town with posters allllllllll over again tonight.
It was a long night... I just hope that whoever has her is looking after her and tries to ring her phone number again. Good thing she has her name tag.
But what if they take her collar off? no phone number if she escapes from them...
What if ???
Billy has gone missing before, but he's such a much different dog-- he wouldn't give a stranger the time of day. Just gets loose, runs his brains out, and comes home when he realizes he's tired/hungry. He has always turned up. Reilly.... well, she's like... letting a golden retriver puppy loose in the big city. Except she's 2 and a beagle.
-sigh-
