My Year of Meaningful (2011)

"Quality takes you out of yourself, makes you aware of the world around you." - R.M. Pirsig

Weekend in pictures.

It was a nice weekend away. It was so nice, that: I protested, I begged, I pleaded.... "PLEASE just one more night". But by no will of H's, we couldn't swing it. Had to come home. Well, he had to go to his meetings in Sligo, and then we had to go home.

Packed up the goodies and the puppies on Sat. morning.
Everybody was excited to go.

First (after an initial 6 hours of driving), there was my site at the top of the Kilronan mountain range in where my beloved was kind enough to drive me around while I did all my work.

The Co. Leitrim/Co. Sligo border is actually quite beautiful, which no one knows. We hardly saw one car the whole afternoon. It reminded me a lot of Wyoming/Utah... in landscape terms, plus in terms of "potential to bump into really crazy, rouge, toothless, depraved, Deliverance-esque, farmer-types". It looked like this.

And there were more suprise windfarms on all the ridgetops, than I could've ever imagined.

Then once we were off the mountain, it was a pleasant drive through the back roads through W.B. Yeats country to Dromahair. Lakes everywhere, rivers everywhere. Dromahair is a sleepy yet good lookin' town with a river running through it, and a really ace pub with no one in it, and a roasty toasty fire burning at all times.

We took some walks, sat by the river, explored/found an old abbey in ruins from 1500, and drank a glass of wine & ate some nice local cheese on our porch.

Sunday it was up to Donegal. Everybody back in the car! Only 3 hours today....

Co. Donegal is as far north as you can get, and there's lots of nice coastline as well as more mountains, and national parks. We stayed on the outskirts of Glenveagh Nat'l Park in the best cottage on the planet!!!

It's on a working sheep farm on the side of a mountain. Which of course we were determined to get to the top of. When we did there was a vew of many different lakes down below.

Some visitors (sheep, new lambs) came up the driveway for dinner.
(no wait, that sounded bad...)
((we ate pasta))

This peaceful and yet swanky cabin was so amazing and thereputic, that the Husband-unit had to drag me kicking and screaming away on Monday to drive up to Moville to get my other job done. (1 and a half hours north). The Moville-Greencastle area is just a bunch of fishing villages/coastline/harbours, etc.

But then just for fun we decided "what the hell" and drove up another hour to the very TOP of Ireland. Malin Head. As far north as one can go in the country. Very worth it.

The top of Ireland looks like this:

Then it was back down to Kilmacrennan (Glenveagh) for our last night in the best cottage on the planet.

Lots of this:

This:

and goodbye to the baby lambs.

So sad.

Even Reggie didn't want to leave. He had a loft all to himself in this place!!! (he's scared of fire)

The end.
