We raised over €1200 for the 1st annual Sponsored Dog Walk for work. We pulled it off on saturday, and everybody had a whopper of a good time. Collegues came, partners/spouses came, kids came, people brought their dogs, and the Greyhond Rescue people brought 7 extra greyhounds so even the folks without dogs had someone to walk. The weather held out on us, everyone behaved, it was sunny, and the picnic afterwards was fun. Fiona even organized doggy treat bags for the pups.
The proud mommy boasts that Billy was the most successful fund-raising dog, landing a whopping 230 from the office crowd. Reggie and Reilly both pulled in about 65. It was fun all around.
THEN on Sunday the unthinkable happened. The Spring League ITRA Cup was won. . . BY US!!! Yes, we met our nemisis from last week again, The Hookers. It was the closest game we've ever played. First we were up by something ridiculous like 9 at halftime. Unthinkable! At halftime we promised ourselves not to sink into complacency. Went back out on the field and WHAMMO, April busts her knee out in a tackle. Down to 3 girls. Now the catch with co-ed tag rugby is that the rules state there can never be less than 3 girls on a side at any given time. So no problem, we have 4 girls on the team, and it just means no subs for us for the 2nd half. No problem.
Until Ciara got a yellow card. Whoops.
Now clearly the rules state that in this event, where the girl is sent to the sin bin for 5 minues, if there is not a substitute girl, the team must forefit (a la the 3-girl minimum rule). Luckily, the ref saw our situation, being that April had been legitimately injured, and allowed us to send off Alan in place of Ciara. Back in the game. However. They scored a girls' try (3 points) and 2 or 3 boys' tries, and before we knew it, we were down by 1. CRAP! But in the last moments, we scored a boy's try and another girl's try and ended up WINNING 12-9. unreal!
so there were pints afterwards, a nice awards ceremony, and a great social gathering for the MightyMightyScrummmmbagggggggggs
WOO WOO!
Summer season starts in 2 weeks. Can't wait.
