Note to self for tomorrow morning: do not turn right! do not go north! do not pass the baboons! do not wave to cops at police roadblock!
Nooooooooo, instead of waking up in the morning, getting in the car and turning RIGHT, coming out of our neighbourhood, we shall be turning LEFT and heading down south on our long-awaited (and there isn't a human being on this earth who could possibly understand just HOW DESPERATELY long-awaited) spring holiday!!!!!!! HOTCHA!!!
The first day we'll drive about 6 and a half hours. Overnight in the Free State (i.e. the Nebraska of SA) and then the next day about 5-6 hours too. Then Saturday afternoon we'll get our first whiff of salty air and humidity (thank GOD! my skin is peeling off here from this damned kalahari winter!!), taste our first fresh shellfish in I dunno how long, and veg the &%(* out!!!

I finally finished Hillary so I have a stack of fast-readers for the holiday and the Mr. does too. Since we're driving we can take all the necessities for a week on the beach that we normally wouldnt try to cram onto plane-luggage... i.e. my snorkel and mask and fins and running shoes and all the pampering goodies like bath salts and creams and bubbles and slippers and robes etc.
The coolest of the cool, however, is my secret bonus surprise for the Mr. (well actually it's for me but I think he'll be chuffed too) which is that I finally downloaded my first ever audiobooks from iTunes. So now, for the long drive on day one, we'll have "Next" by Michael Crichton to listen to (only because of you Adelly!) and then for the long drive back on the way home we'll have "The Art of Happiness" by the big D.L. himself (& co.). I've never had audiobooks before. My iPod has always been music only. Now it's both. I'm excited. Let's see if it makes any difference on a 14 hour trip.
I'm bringing the laptop as there may be wireless so I may be able to catch up on all the crapping around on the internet that I've been robbed of because of work and studying, particularly uploading photos and friendship maintenance emails. But no matter what, there is gonna be a whole lot of NOTHING goin' on for the next week in the life of me. Nothing, that is, except for chilling out!! WOOOO HOOOO! I can't wait!!!
(it says "Me & the Mr. 3, days from now")
