Argument does not necessarily warrant squabbling back and forth. When under verbal attack, sometimes it may be better to just stop- to let any unjustified, ridiculous words of verbal slander hang in the air. For effect. Immediately throwing words back at your attacker simply undermines the power of letting his/her nonsense resonate and reverberate throughout the room, where its sheer retardedness can sink in and really be heard by the person launching it.

That's one way to get your point across when the words "you're being ridiculous" don't seem to be working.

That's my opinion, anyway.
