My Year of Meaningful (2011)

Word from the land of carrot munchers

How is it possible I picked up a whole kg in one weekend?

I'm so annoyed.

The Mr. managed to absorb 2kg! That's some serious eatin! Especially considering between Fri-Sun, we were at the gym TWICE, and managed to do some major ass-hauling on the big World Woof day at the shelter.

So today we eat carrot sticks. crunch, crunch.

I wonder if we could actually turn yellow, like the guy on Scrubs who came into the hospital whilst visiting his El Prego wife, and was all orange. Of course Dr. Cox eventually diagnoses that guy as eating way too many carrots (which turns you yellow) and way too many tomatoes (which turn you red) simultaneously, thus making him orange... but I digress.

Friday was a public holiday (May Day) and we worked. -sigh-
BUT! I managed to find the elusive crockpot during a quick lunchtime shopping trip, that I've been looking for. So that was a success. And I did it all to the tunes of Taj Mahal's "Maestro" album which I realized puts me in a good mood EVERY time I listen to it. I can gently float through the chaos and turmoil of a Gabz-City shopping mall on a long weekend and, safely plugged into my i-Tunes, not even know where I am or who just stepped on my foot without saying sorry.

Saturday we spent most of the afternoon at the shelter getting ready for Oscar the travelling celebrity dog, tidying up, and yelling at the staff for burning dog/donkey/goat carcasses on the walking trail, and dumping rubbish and biohazardous medical materials on the same. ugh.

Saturday night was our dinner party w/ S&M (HA! that sounds perverse! I love it!), and they ate up my 8-hour-slow-cooked carnitas with refried beans and spanish rice and homemade guacamole and spicy queso dip. Since S. is another El Prego type, M& the Mr. & I were left to drain all the red wine in the house between the 3 of us and we all listened to tunes and bantered late into the night - marking my first social entertaining IN THE HOUSE, due to the quickly dropping winter temperatures, rather than outside on the stoop as usual. They are both in love with Jock, and he was very well behaved so that's good to know for the next time we have company.

Sunday it was up early and off to the shelter AGAIN for Oscar and his travelling circus of tv cameras and doting support crew. One of the local orphanages sent a busload of kids over and we were filmed showing them around the shelter and introducing them to dogs, cats, rabbits, etc etc. This culminated in them all taking the shelter dog of their (our) choice on a nice walk, and loving on Oscar, and then "choosing an Oscar" to be the official representative of our shelter, upon whom would be bestowed a special collar, leash, and doggy tag. As well as being featured in their documentary. They picked Bobby (Bobby the white female dog, not Bobby the brown male dog - who lives in the cage 2 down from the girl Bobby. Our staff are not the most creative with names), and Bobby was luckily very good for the cameras (eesh!) and Bobby got a bunch of love that day. Now let's see if Bobby can get a home... ay, yi, yi.

Then it was off to the gym, covered in dog pee and hot dogs and little children slime. Then a lovely relaxing evening of leftover carnitas and IPL cricket on the couch. aahhhh.

Now the turmoil: 1) dad turning 60 next week and me having NO present and NO clue. and of course 2) mothers day (see above).
DOH!

1-2-3 Carrot time!
